Disney fills in former River Country to help stop spread of Zika.

Last summer  when Zika was found in Florida, Walt Disney World had a few preventive measures put in place all throughout their property.

In the Parks Disney set up kiosks with mosquito repellent free of charge for anyone who wants it. A cast member was on hand to assist you and gave advice on keeping your home free of the pests. It really shows The Walt Disney Company cares about you by keeping you safe and healthy.

The biggest preventative measure was filling in River Country last year during the height of the Zika outbreak.

Disney's first water park has been long abandoned for many years. You have seen many picture of the decaying buildings and pools. River country opened in 1976 and closed 2001. It took many years to finally fill it in. But now Zika virus is on the loose in Florida. Disney is not taking any chances. Disney first drained the former water park pool. Dump truck after dump truck filled with dirt were sent out to fill in the massive pool. The pool that was filled in was called Upstream Plunge, the pool the slides emptied into. That pool was 330,000 gallons of water. It may take about 110 dump trucks to fill it up. Each truck is about 15cu (cubic yards). I'm just guessing I didn't see it being filled in but, I have some pictures of the finished product. Now the building are still there with no immediate plans to tear them down. Disney is doing everything they can to make your vacation safe and fun. Hopefully in the coming summer vacation, Disney's preventative measures will help stop the spread of this virus.

This coming summer time filling River Country will give Disney a head start preventing Zika on property.

Just to let my friends know boy, was I scared. I though any second security was coming to take me away.
